Midjourney is a generative artificial intelligence application that can convert natural language text into images. However, unlike other similar tools, the images created with Midjourney are truly original, stunning, and convincing.
It relies on two relatively new machine learning technologies: large language models and diffusion models. First, a large language model helps Midjourney AI understand the meaning of the words you enter. It then converts them into what is called a vector, which can be thought of as a numerical version of the message. Finally, this vector helps control another complex process known as diffusion.
Diffusion became popular relatively recently, leading to the creation of many different AI generators. In the diffusion model, the computer gradually adds “random noise” to the training image dataset. This means, in very simple terms, that it introduces variations into the original images to create altered versions, and with enough training, it can learn to generate completely new images.

How to Use Midjourney Step by Step: We Tried It
To begin, click on the “Generate Image” button. Enter the description of the image you want. If you want a watercolor of a tropical beach, write the prompt in detail: beautiful watercolor of a tropical beach with sunlight, small clouds in the sky, and a flock of birds.
Enter the negative text, i.e., what you do not want to appear in the image. For example: “no people”.
Choose the image size; by default, it provides a 512px square image, but we’ll set it to 980×597.
- Other adjustments: You’ll be asked to select a scheduler, which refers to the diffusion model and is used to control the quality and image generation process. We choose DDPMScheduler, but it’s a matter of testing to find the one that best fits our expectations.
- Orientation scale: The lower the value, the more creative freedom the model has to generate more varied but less accurate images. If the value is high, the model sticks more closely to the provided description. We leave the default value: 7.
- Steps: The fewer the steps, the faster the image generation process, but the quality may be lower. With a higher number of steps, the model provides a higher-quality and more detailed image, but the process is slower. The default value is 11.

Other Possibilities of Midjourney AI
More experienced users can use different features of Midjourney. For example:
